The company earned four stars for this accreditation, which guarantees that the salmon production carried out by the Nova Austral is environmentally and socially responsible. The company set a goal to have 100% of its operation certified with BAP this year.
March 19, 2021.- Nova Austral gained the “Best Aquaculture Practices” (BAP) certification from the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), with four stars, for five farming centers located in the Magallanes Region, at the southern tip of Chile: Aracena 1, Aracena 3, Aracena 4, Aracena 5 and Aracena 13, which joined the Aracena 19 certified center in July 2020.
Furthermore, the processing plant located in Porvenir and its hatchery in Tierra del Fuego also succeeded in obtaining this prestigious international accreditation, which guarantees that Nova Austral’s salmon production is performed in an environmentally and socially responsible way and that the product obtained is safe for human consumption.
These certifications are achieved due to hard work carried out by Nova Austral’s new management team to assure that the company’s facilities are operating with the highest standards in terms of sustainability, which was verified by BAP through an audit conducted by the independent entity SAI Global. In this audit process, compliance with BAP standards regarding environmental responsibility, social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety, and traceability are thoroughly reviewed.

A division of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, Best Aquaculture Practices is an international certification program based on achievable, science-based and continuously improved performance standards for the entire aquaculture production chain – including processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills.
